Shlagel Farms has been operating within the same family for over one hundred years. The strawberries at Shlagel Farms are very popular and everyone is invited to spend a day in the sunshine picking their own! In addition to strawberry picking, there is also a children’s play area, a farmers market, a hay wagon ride and much more !
“We are conventional growers. We use no till planting whenever possible to reduce the disturbance and loss of the soil. We use Integrated Pest Management strategies to reduce the use of pesticides. Russ and Karl have their Private Pesticide Applicators License which involves testing and continuing education for renewal. When a crop protectant is necessary Farmer Russ will always use an organic approved product as his first line of defence. Its imperative that we protect our pollinators!”
Autumn Fun sees a pumpkin patch, hayrides, a petting zoo, straw maze, baby chick holding and a large sand pile with diggers.”

Key Insights:
Pretty sure this place is closer if you live in Northern VA than any of the other pick-your-own pumpkin farms in Virginia.
They all enjoyed the play area, petting zoo, corn box and, most especially, the tractor ride to the pumpkin patch.
Next time we are going to stay longer for the ice cream.. Well organized, plentiful strawberries, and a fair price.
The layout of the field makes berry picking go quickly so antsy younger kiddos don’t need to spend too long to feel successful.
Traffic jam to park and a 30 minute wait to weigh your berries and pay.
